PROGRAMS

African American History Challenge Bowl
A national program of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.  It is a competition where teams of two students from different schools compete by answering questions based on African American history.  The annual citywide history bowl competition is promoted to all middle and high school students in Madison.  Winners of the local Madison contest are awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to the Annual National Conference where they will compete with other local chapters to win coveted scholarships.

Back to School Picnic
A back-to-school picnic for elementary and middle school students and their parents.  In past years, the "100" has provided over 2,500 backpacks filled with school supplies and dictionaries.  Contributing to the picnic atmosphere are hotdogs and hamburgers (provided by local businesses) grilled on site by members of the organization.  The event has become increasingly popular as the 100 Black Men of Madison continue to assist Dane County students achieve academic excellence.
Golf Outing
An annual event for members and other golfers.  This is one of the major fundraising efforts for the organization.  Corporations are encouraged to sponsor golf holes and send a foursome from the company to participate.  Individuals can also participate and be paired with partners on the day of the event.  The annual Golf Outing provides a healthy, athletic environment for fellowship, fun, and exposure to positive ethnicity.
Mentoring Program
The purpose of our Mentoring/Tutor Program is to promote academic achievement and success.  To accomplish this goal, we work toward sustaining an ongoing relationship between young and adult males, striving toward improved academic performance, as well as providing and engaging youth in positive activities with responsible adult males.  Our aim is to provide learning experiences that promote education, reduce or eliminate contact with the juvenile justice system, and prepare young men to accept leadership responsibilities within their families and community.  This program is conducted in collaboration with the Madison Metropolitan School District and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Dane County.
